Microsoft Acquiring GitHub in $7.5 Billion Stock Deal

USA Today | Mon June 4, 2018 — Microsoft is making headlines with a big acquisition. They are shelling out $7.5 billion for a company called GitHub, a sharing and collaboration software platform. 28 million developers currently use this software. This acquisition will launch Microsoft ahead of many competitors in the web hosting market and create an incentive for app developers to host their work on Azure. The transaction will officially close by the end of 2018.

Facebook to Shut Down ‘Trending’ News Section in Favor of Breaking News Test

Huffington Post | Fri June 1, 2018 — If you’ve enjoyed the small box to the right of your Facebook screen sharing trending news, it’s time to start savoring its last days. Facebook has announced their intention to take away the trending news section and replace it with a breaking news section instead. Currently, the trending news section only accounts for 1.5% of clicks to the relevant news websites. It also had a tendency to spread fake news, which hasn’t helped results. The new breaking news feature will be known as “Today In.” It will display local breaking news, as well as a Facebook Watch section for original content videos and live videos.

Sonos Announced a Home Theater Soundbar Powered by Amazon’s Alexa & Siri

Business Insider | Wed June 6, 2018 — For just $399, you’ll never have to go to a movie theater again. Unless you want to, that is. But Sonos has made it easier to turn your TV room into a home theater with the Sonos Beam – a home theater soundbar that is powered by Amazon’s Alexa. Eventually, the soundbar will also be powered by Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant as software updates are released. This soundbar model is half the size of the existing Sonos Bar and is meant to sit on top of an entertainment system. Users will be able to talk to Alexa directly out of the box.

Apple Revealed iPhone and iPad Updates Arriving with iOS12 During WWDC 2018.

The update will arrive later this year and will include several new features. To name a few, there will be a new addition to Siri with shortcuts that Siri will learn based on your habits, as well as Facetime Group calling. Google’s New G-Suite Could Streamline Meetings

One such integration is the compatibility of Hangouts Meet with traditional video conferencing systems, making transitions into existing tech easier. This update is meant to make team meetings easier and more efficient and increase productivity.
